How About That PS5 Pro? - meanderbot - 09-11-2024

Honestly, if I was going to buy anything it would've been a used PS4, but man am I opposed to damn near everything about the PS5 Pro.  I could maybe go driveless if it supported using off the shelf drives over USB (I'm assuming it doesn't) but that's otherwise a huge red flag.  But this product was completely made without me in mind.

Yeah I really don't know who is this made for. Someone who wants cutting edge tech is probably sticking with PC. It's probably not incentivizing anyone who has been holding out when it costs as much as it does. So it's most likely diehard PS5 owners looking for a mid-gen bump. No idea how big that market is but after quickly dropping the VR2, I don't know how they expect people to think it'll be supported to its full potential.

I've still yet to jump into this gen and it's not looking good for getting me to buy in.

If I had absolutely no consoles nor a PC and suddenly wanted to get into high end gaming, I'd definitely consider it.

But I already have a PS5 and even a great PC.

There are a small handful of games where the performance makes me go "ugh," like Final Fantasy XIV. I don't think there's enough to warrant upgrading though. Also, multiple games like FF16 have PC ports coming soon. I hope they regret the price.
